With 2014 all wrapped up and the first month of 2015 almost done Hive Social is fast approaching it’s 1st birthday! We’ve met amazing people and worked with some incredible clients and I wanted to take a quick look back at some of the highlights of what has been an incredible first year.
Things properly started around this time last year with the the insanely talented guys over at Set Sail Studios who put together our logo, helped develop the Hive Social branding and get things off the ground. With everything in place I went along to a few local networking events, one of which being the Morning! in Abergavenny. The lovely ladies that run the event, Penny & Sian, have been incredibly supportive of Hive Social and helped us land our first client Cordel Gowan Ltd. We put together a social media strategy / schedule for Cordel Gowan and assisted with the management of their social media accounts including Twitter, LinkedIn, google Plus & a new blog for their website.
Morning! is hosted at The Kings Arms Hotel in Abergavenny and we were approached by the owner Jon, who was looking to improve the hotels online presence. Working with the Kings Arms’ WordPress website we optimised the text / image content as well as the internal infrastructure. We also build a social media schedule and provided in-house training on social media best practices for their active accounts.
Having worked with Squarespace at previous agencies and job positions I have long been a huge advocate of the website platform and in April last year Hive Social proudly joined the ranks as a registered Squarespace Specialist. This has been fantastic for Hive and led to a number of awesome website projects, the first of which being Sugar & Yeast.
The wine tasting events company based over in Kent were looking for a simple, informative site to engage and capture new clients. We also provided Squarespace training, so that the site & blog could easily be managed in the long term (something we offer with all website builds).
Back in April we also wrapped up a website build for Chicago-based agency Valentine Social Media. Working with Jessica (founder), Hive produced a contemporary website that reflected the city in which the agency is based.
June soon came around and saw us embark on our biggest project so far, for Calcutta Mercy. We were honoured to be asked to construct their new website which including a ‘My Calcutta’ web app allowing users to sign up, start and track their own fundraising campaigns for the charity which was built by our partners at Millwood Online.
Over the summer we also got involved on a voluntary basis for Monmouth Festival which is organised by dedicated members of the local community and one of the biggest free music festivals in Europe. Having seen the likes of Dr. and The Medics, GLC, Tenors of Rock, SL2, Hattie Briggs and Seth Lakeman we were really excited to be assisting with digital marketing and live social media for the 9 day event!
In the autumn Hive began work on a couple of website projects for NYC based JUEL Consulting (website live very shortly!), Essex freelancer Jo Johnston and Bristol based food blogger Pudding & Pie. All of which have been a pleasure to work with and again built on the brilliant Squarespace platform. Another particular highlight around this time was being invited along to the Squarespace London Meet-Up for a slap up meal and the chance to mingle with some fellow Squarespace designers & developers.
All in all it has been a whirlwind of a year and I, for one, am extremely grateful for the clients, people and partners that have worked with Hive Social so far and made it what it is.
If you're an existing client reading this let me say a huge 'thank you', and if you're a potential new client let me say 'hi!' - we'd love to chat!
