I was chuffed to be invited to meet up with a few of the guys from Squarespace to help them learn a little more about the UK creative & web design industry, as well as discuss my experience working directly with their customers. We quite quickly got on to the subject of what areas of the UK, outside of London, are seeing creative industry growth.
There's loads of information, articles and research (including report from Centre for Cities) identifying Bristol and Bath as the centre of one of the UK's fastest-growing tech sector outside of London. The region, of course, has a rich history of attracting globally successful businesses (Airbus, Rolls Royce, BAE, HP, Toshiba, IBM and Orange to name a few...) but with a high quality of life, great transport links and an increasingly skilled workforce, Bristol and Bath are the places to be!
More specifically, the digital & creative industry has seen rapid growth over the last couple of years with new companies popping up, increased investment/funding and infrastructure support from organisations and creative networks just like our own home here at 77 Stokes Croft. 'Silicon Gorge', as the area is fast becoming known as, is certainly a very exciting place to be for our industry!
Here's a great infographic profiling the area's growth in recent years:
